Amato's is THE sandwich shop while in Maine. Everything is so fresh, and so good. I particularly am addicted to the salad dressing. It's one of those oil based homemade Italians that's just impossible to replicate. Thankfully they sell it so you can easily stock up. Because of the dressing, I've always gone for the salad. But the sandwiches are always a family hit, too. And where else can you really get a large Italian sub (and it's a huge large) for $6.99?

Lots of grab and go however we chose to have sandwiches made. Although I am sure the food is good, my wrap came with cheese when I asked for none and loaded with olives which the order taker did not mention in the confirmation of "lettuce tomatoes onions cucumbers pickles". I won't be eating until we get home. All made to order fresh which was nice. To bad no where to sit. Checkout was great. Checked in with me to let me know where my order was.

This Amato's is right by my house, and I go often for sandwiches, wraps, salads, and pizza, all of which are delicious. They're generous with portions, and the veggies are quite fresh. Everyone that's helped me there has been either friendly or super-friendly. Amato's is several giant steps above what you'll get at a fast food joint or Subway. Their pizza is also very good, and not just for a sandwich shop. For anywhere. In addition to the food, they also have a small but good selection of wines and beers. Shipyard Export in a can! This place is a real neighborhood staple for me.

The Amato's food is good (its the same no matter where you go ) this place however has some downright terrible service. I hate to say that about anywhere, but there is one guy (If you have been, you know who I am talking about ) who is SOO Rude. One day my wife and I were in, and he was sweeping, and he swept the dirt over our feet, as if we were in his way (not to mention you cannot ask him anything without getting a nasty look or a grunt as if you asked him to rebuild the pyramids of Egypt), not that we go here for service, it's just so bad it has to be mentioned. And don't even think about phone ordering in, it's like call Time Warner Cable, nothing will get accomplished by doing it. Again, food is good, great for those "I am too lazy to cook and I really just want a filling Sandwich or Pasta" Days. It also has the biggest chip selection I have seen of any Amato's. Must have the Meatballs, SOOO GOOD !!

I simply don't visit my parents w/o stopping at Amato's. Large double on wheat, no olive, lite onion, s&p, mayo (no oil) is my crack! Pazzo? YES! This is another place my husband and parents also love, so getting large portion, quality food for this cheap is an all around winner.

I love Amatos so much. Make sure you get their pazzo bread, no trip to Maine is complete without an order of Pazzo bread. Please bring Amatos to NYC!!!

Ordered the Amato's original sandwich, make sure you tell them what you do or don't want on the sandwich. The sandwich was so tasty but a bit messy (be sure to grab silverware and plates). Had the right amount of meat to bread ratio.

Every time I've been to an Amato's, I've had some very excellent food. I think I've been to this one the most often as it's closest to my in-laws' house. Anyway, I've usually gotten an italian or one of the other meat-and-cheese sandwiches. Delicious, satisfying, filling. They're a little difficult to eat, though, if you're not accustomed, as there's so much meat and stuff to stuff into the bread... as if that's a bad thing.
